Cowboy Bebop!

The first prototype ship "Bebop I" was too small for the crew.

Bebop has been around for a long time and I just thought I'd add it to my list. This is one of those series that gets you on the first episode, a feat done so far only by Eva and FLCL (my list isn't that extensive yet). Noir is sitting around the hard disk because it bombed on my "first-episode" assessment.

More than the action, the series brings on a deadpan, almost sarcastic level of humor in it. It also has them interesting characters, the type with shady backstories. Throw in a kickass soundtrack and we have ourselves an otaku party.

I Suck at This

Let me break it down into comprehensible logical pieces of information:
  • AAARRRGGGHHHH
  • YAARRGGGHH
  • QERPIHWJTHKWMRBX
  • !#$@WWQ#%G@Q%HBE
Well, it doesn't really sting that bad. It's just that same feeling that makes you want to go up Mt Faber and scream bloody hell while using your bare hands to rapel down Sentosa in the hopes that the burning slicing sensation in your palm can distract you from a deeper, far more sinister malaise.

Although I have to admit that there is humor in this. It's like a hyper-realistic romcom where the guy doesn't get the girl and ends up staring blankly at crowds, lost in a strange city where no amount of chinky-eyed, long-legged chicks can bring him to a level of happiness he once felt.

And roll credits.

This message is a last momentous gasp for air. I took that leap, and hoped to God I could fly. But life is not like the movies. You don't see those reluctant but lovable protagonists.

Not real life.

It's just us humans.

Fan Service! The Girls of Eva

Left to right: Mari Makinami Illustrious, Asuka Langley Shikinami (formerly Soryu), Rei Ayanami. Shinji is an asshole for having all these women.

After watching the camvid, English subbed Eva 2.0, I think Asuka just somersaulted her way to the top of my list. Anno made her a lot more vulnerable and lovable. And so did Rei. Mari has a long way to go in my list, but her outfit makes her tie with Rei in second place.
